1951 Muntz Jet. Alloy Body. Only 28 made.

When Mad Man Muntz started building Muntz Jet cars he decided they were going to have aluminum front fenders, door skins and aluminum rear fenders.

Only 28 of the aluminum body cars were made before they started building the cars out of steel instead and moved production from Southern California to the Mid West.

They also stretched the cars and made them taller and clumsier looking after the first 28 cars were finished.

This car is VIN 127; it is the 27th car made so it is the second to last car with aluminum panels. We don’t have the Carson top the Muntz Jets were fitted with when they were new. They are easy to make. The DuVall windshield frame in brass is in excellent condition.

A friend of mine bought this car from the original owner 30-40 years ago. We started on a restoration 4-5 years ago but we have not had much time to work on it so we will run an ad and see if there is any interest in it as it sits now.  If it does not sell we will finish the restoration. In about 2 months the car will go to a body shop specializing in high quality aluminum work, if not sold before.

The Muntz body has never been rusted or in bad condition.  The aluminum panels are somewhat aged and the steel is in good condition. The hood will need a new skin, or it could possibly be patched.

The doors are finished and they are better than new with newly made inner door skins.

The cars are very simple to restore and work on. Mechanically they used mostly Ford components.  The engine is a Cadillac 331 (we have a Cadillac engine that was totally rebuilt 10 years ago), interior is super simple, etc.

This Muntz Jet was painted Indian Coral when new with a white leather interior.

The Muntz Jet cars are very collectable and valuable and the aluminum cars are of course the rarest and most sought after and thus the most valuable.

THE MUNTZ IS AT OUR SHOP IN ARIZONA AND THE PRICE IS $60,000 AS IT SITS.
